Behind the Scenes
Mafalda
Mafalda is an Argentine comic strip written and drawn by cartoonist Quino (Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón). The strip features a six-year-old girl, Mafalda, who reflects the Argentinian middle class and progressive youth. This brilliant little philosopher is concerned about humanity and world peace and expresses an innocent but serious attitude toward problems. The comic strip ran from 1964 to 1973 and was popular throughout Latin America, Europe, Quebec and Asia. Its popularity led to books and two animated cartoon series. Mafalda has been praised as masterful satire, and I’d say it’s the heir to Peanuts and a godparent to Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County in many ways.

Please note, all Manifest Sculpt work is completed with traditional sculpting techniques—modelling and carving—rather than through modern digital techniques and programs. Consequently, the resin and bronze castings in this edition were also produced through traditional mold making and manufacturing processes. Final Manifest Sculpt commissions are available in a variety of materials, but they are not 3D printed and are not available as printable files.
