Mr. X

Behind the Scenes

I used my own face for the reference, even though he doesn’t really look like me at first glance. I wanted the character to have some grounding in the real world to contrast the unrealistic image of Katochi. The other characters I designed for the story are realistic as well, though I didn’t sculpt maquettes for most of them.

Though the Katochi figure towers over the one of Mr. X, they are in the same scale. The fallen angel is a giant compared to human beings, which is why Katochi’s indestructible dagger is a sword in Mr. X’s hands, and why X’s odd leather trench coat has so many folds in the sleeves. It wasn’t made for Katochi, but there is a story about where the hide for it came from and why it’s so durable; think Heracles and the Nemean Lion…

Mr. X

Mr. X

This character is the human antagonist to Katochi, though not his enemy per se. Katochi isn’t “evil,” he simply has a mission—which is distasteful to him—to collect the souls that have been sold to the devil. Mr. X’s mission is to let the world know that there are consequences to selling your soul to the devil and those consequences are infinitely worse than anyone could imagine them to be.

Katochi wants Mr. X to succeed actually—because he’d then be free.

I’m not going to break down the whole story here because that isn’t what this site is about—but hey, if you want to talk about getting this thing financed, let me know, because I still owe mom…

Let’s make something amazing together

Consequently, the resin and bronze castings in this edition were also produced through traditional mold making and manufacturing processes. Final Manifest Sculpt commissions are available in a variety of materials, but they are not 3D printed and are not available as printable files.
