Manji
Behind the Scenes
I always try to capture movement in my sculptures—especially when dealing with a subject as kinetic as Manji. Samura’s drawings are exquisite and his fight scenes, though graphic, are beautifully choreographed, featuring balletic movement and poses. I wanted this figure to evoke something like a “lost pose,” one that occurred between panels that we hadn’t gotten to see.
Yet.
I cast three copies of this piece and pursued the license, but the deal fell through. The paint job on the prototypes was provided by my amazingly talented friend, Dan Colonna
Please check him out. His story is even more inspiring than his incredible art:

Please note, all Manifest Sculpt work is completed with traditional sculpting techniques—modelling and carving—rather than through modern digital techniques and programs. Consequently, the resin and bronze castings in this edition were also produced through traditional mold making and manufacturing processes. Final Manifest Sculpt commissions are available in a variety of materials, but they are not 3D printed and are not available as printable files.
