I didn’t want my werewolf design to look like anyone else’s, so I studied lupine anatomy and looked for unique ways to combine it with that of a human, picking which to defer to when there were real discrepancies and looking for as many ways to blend the two whenever there were similarities.
I came up with Katochi in a feverish month of creativity. I had wanted to sculpt something that was radically different.
Mr. X’s mission is to let the world know that there are consequences to selling your soul to the devil and those consequences are infinitely worse than anyone could imagine them to be.
This hybridized creature, which makes me think of the cool animal mashups featured in the Avatar cartoons, was an idea I had rolling around my head for many years (well before those shows were ever created), ever since I learned I was born on the cusp of the lunar new year—so I’m equal parts river goat and monkey. And so is this guy.
